Gaslight Art Colony
The Gaslight Art Colony is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to broadening an appreciation of the arts by providing opportunities to promote awareness, participation, and understanding, through fine arts exhibitions, classes, and work shops. During 2010, the Colony featured 14 individual artists in our gallery and exhibited artwork by 24 local Colony members in two monthly showings. We offered 13 different instructional classes for the community, and organized our first annual gala benefit.

Bill Allen and Scott Payne
Beginning Saturday, May 19th Gaslight Art Colony will be filled with the artwork of artists Bill Allen and Scott Payne. A reception for the artists will be held from 6-9 p.m. that evening. All are encouraged to attend.
William “Bill” Allen was born on August 19, 1956 in Terre Haute, IN. Bill grew up in North Terre Haute. After graduating from high school, Bill attended Indiana State University. While in college, he took several art classes. Although Bill enjoys photography and drawing, his true creative passion is painting. Bill’s inspiration has derived from the organic aspects of architecture and the surreal elements of nature. He is also influenced by the vibrant character of his abstract imagination.
Scott Ray Payne is basically a self-taught artist. He does credit his grade school and high school art teachers Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Grubb as both excellent teachers and as major influences. But he was also inspired by a set of Old World encyclopedias. “I have had to draw what was in me; it had to come out. In some of these works I tried to capture some of my inner child. I have really been inspired by the kids’ art, by their pure expression before all the rules and expectations seep in.”
