Harry Gee to perform Aug. 15
Harry Gee, a professor emeritus of music at Indiana State University, will perform his own works for saxophone and clarinet at 6:30 p.m.. Aug. 15 at Westminster Village. The recital is free and open to the public.
Gee will be accompanied by Louise Clark. Gee’s student Daniel Mutchler, who will study at Indiana State with Kelley Niyama this fall, will also perform and will be accompanied by Curt Pennington of the Indiana State music faculty. Mutchler, a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, has studied clarinet with Gee for the past five years. Mutchler will perform clarinet solos by Mozart, Saint-Saens and Lamont Kennaway. The recital will conclude with Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 2 for two clarinets and piano.
Appointed in 1960 to the Department of Music at Indiana State, Gee participated in solo and chamber music performances and appeared as clarinet soloist with the university bands and orchestras at Butler, Purdue and Indiana State. He retired from Indiana State in 1992.. He served as principal and co-principal clarinetist of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra for 37 years, retiring at the end of the 1998-99 season.
Through the years Gee has had more than 100 publications of his compositions and arrangements released by leading publishing houses. He also continues to write.
